Hours: Estimated 12 to 16 hours per week depending on need. Must be willing to work flexible hours and weekends.
Wage: $15.00 per/hour
Nature and Scope
A Port in the Storm is a not-for-profit organization providing safe, affordable accommodation to those who must come to Winnipeg from northern or rural areas to receive medical treatment not available to them in their home communities. We have 15 rental suites available at our location in downtown Winnipeg.
Reporting to the Guest & Volunteer Manager, the Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleaning and housekeeping services for our facility. This position will work closely with the Guest & Volunteer Manager on a day-to-day basis.
Maintenance of Suites and Common Areas
Clean guest suites on check out or as required including: dusting; changing and removing used bedding; removing garbage from suites; vacuuming and washing floors; kitchen cleaning including emptying and cleaning refrigerator, removing any food items from cupboards; cleaning oven (self-cleaning), microwave, and ensuring that all kitchen cupboards are neat and clean; bathroom cleaning. Check that all appliances in suites are in working order. Realign furniture and amenities according to prescribed layout. Replenish suites with supplies and ensure that suites look welcoming. Take inventory of all items in suite and record on Check Out Inventory sheet. Advise Management of any missing or damaged items. Record and advise Management promptly of any damage, maintenance issues or safety hazards. Clean common areas and office. Laundry:
Collect, sort, transport laundry as required. Put laundry into washing machines and dryers. Remove laundry from dryers and fold immediately to prevent wrinkling. Stock linen supply room with clean linens. Maintain order in laundry storage room and storage lockers. Store all dirty linen in line with policy. Laundry will include bed linens, blankets, duvets/comforters, towels and face cloths, bath mats, kitchen towels Other:
Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and ensure that supplies are stocked as needed. Follow all safety and security procedures. Respond to guest queries and requests. Maintain guest confidentiality Qualifications:
English language skills including verbal, reading, and written Customer-focused with a sensitivity to and appreciation of different cultures Good listening skills and the ability to follow instructions Good communication skills Good personal grooming and professional presentation Strong work ethic and positive team attitude Reliability Ability to work independently, including planning and organizing Adaptability Excellent time management skills Able to work well under pressure Able to work a physically demanding position that requires frequent lifting, pushing and pulling of greater than 10 kg; physical mobility and stamina including the ability to reach, kneel and bend, and the capability of performing repetitive tasks. High energy levels Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. Previous experience is an asset, but training will be provided for the suitable candidate in accordance with Port standards.
