F/T Property Manager required for Private Island in Gulf Islands

We are seeking an experienced Property Manager for a Private Island within the beautiful Gulf Islands of the Strait of Georgia between Vancouver Island and Mainland British Columbia. This position is full-time, year-round and permanent. Accommodations are provided for the Property Manager and family. The position pays a competitive salary, offers accommodation and a robust benefits package that includes life insurance and long term disability.

The position is Monday to Friday, 8am to 12pm and then 1pm to 4:30pm, however, duties must be accomplished in a manner that is not detrimental to the Property Manager’s health and safety.

All applicants must hold current status to legally work in Canada. Sponsorship is not being considered.

All applicants must hold a valid BC Boater’s License with experience operating marine vessels in variable ocean conditions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General Duties:
• Maintain schedule discipline with daily worker and preplan duties for each day
• Organize contractor’s work, if any, to maximize efficiency on punctuality and co-operation
• Inspect all buildings (Main House, Guest House, Cottage) daily
• Keep island in clean and orderly state at all times
• Keep record (receipts) of daily expenses in order for submission of monthly report to office
• Liaise with office on any ad hoc or unusual issues/matters
• Plan future projects for annual budget submission
• Maintain company truck in good condition
• Machinery maintenance

Family Visits:
• Prioritize island duties for planned visitations
• Organize parking and transportation for visitors

Island Garden Maintenance:
• Lawn mowing, fertilizing and renewal
• Pruning estate trees and shrubs as needed
• Ongoing waterworks installation and repair
• Log in locations of underground infrastructure
• Renew chip mulch as needed
• Clean island roads and trails
• Planting annual flowers for summer season
• Utilize integrated weed and pest control

Building Maintenance:
• Keep roofs and gutter clean
• Organize housekeeping
• Wash all windows inside and outside at least annually
• Repair broken or worn out infrastructure
• Power wash patios, etc.

Marine Maintenance:
• Keep boat and barge clean
• Maintain boats to high reliability standard
• Paint and repair as needed
• Power wash dock twice annually

Forest Management:
• Thin undesirable trees
• Chip all litter
• Cut firewood from fallen trees
• Identify and deal with dangerous trees

Regulatory Compliance:
• Ensure environmental compliance
• Maintain workplace safety
• Understand regulatory mandates that affect the owner and/or island

SKILLS AND APTITUDES
• Must have marine experience and boat handling skills
Must have a current BC Boater’s License
• Must have competent handyman abilities
• Plumbing skills and systems design knowledge
• Gardening, landscaping and arborist experience
• Wide ranging knowledge of large and small machinery and tools
• High level chainsaw proficiency
• Safety and environmental awareness
• Neatness and presentability in all aspects
• Due to position requirements, must have a robust level of health and fitness
• Must be security conscious
• Good communication skills and basic computer knowledge are essential
• Should have an ability to interact professionally with a wide range of family members, including young children and international guests
• Discretion and honesty in all matters
• Must be willing to sign a Confidentiality Agreement
• Must have a valid driver’s license, clean driver’s abstract and be insurable
• Must be punctual and organized
• The ideal candidate pays attention to details, has common sense and the ability to execute and “figure things out”
• Must be self-motivated and directed
• The successful Candidate will take pride in their work and the island and care for it as if it was their own
• The successful candidate will understand professional boundaries and understand the difference between being friendly and being friends
• Willingness to stay engaged by taking on other tasks is an asset
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
