HR Coordinator



Job Description:We are looking for a 12 month contract employee to join our Human Resources team. Reporting to the HR Lead, the HR Coordinator is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations contributing to a high-performing, employee-oriented culture. The HR Coordinator is responsible for driving all human resources activities and initiatives, including recruitment, onboarding, internal communications, performance management, employment information requests, and employee engagement. The ideal candidate will be a lifelong learner who is looking for an opportunity to build on their experience in human resources. They will need to be a self-starter, able to handle sensitive and confidential information, and demonstrate discretion with employee relations issues. Responsibilities: Talent AcquisitionCollaborate with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for open rolesRecruit, interview, and facilitate the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positionsConduct background checks and reference checksImplement new hire onboarding programs to deliver an exceptional first-day experience Relationship BuilderBuild strong relationships and support employees through change across the organizationChampion new initiatives and communicate messages about processes and proceduresPromote HR Programs to create an inclusive, efficient, and diverse workplace Engagement ChampionProvide ideas and suggestions to continually improve employee engagementUndertake tasks around performance and talent management, including succession planning and organizing bi-annual and annual employee performance reviews Trusted AdvisorHandle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and people leaders, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staffEnsure legal compliance to applicable laws, policies, and proceduresMaintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent and performance management, and engagement AdministrationUse HRIS to ensure all employee records are up-to-dateDevelop HR metrics and reports to meet ongoing BCMEA requirementsAssist in the interpretation and upkeep of the employee handbook, employee directory, organizational chart, and contribute to the development and execution of procedures and policiesReview, track, and document compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training and continuing education Experience, Skills & Abilities:Post-Secondary education in HR, Business, a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.1 to 3 years’ experience in an HR roleExcellent communication and interpersonal skills; possess cultural awarenessAptitude for problem-solving with thorough knowledge of HR procedures and policiesExperience with full cycle of recruitment and onboardingAbility to work under pressure and deliver against tight deadlinesA strategic thinker, planner, influencer and negotiatorAttention to detail and excellent planning, prioritization, and organizational skillsAbility to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentialityProficiency with or the ability to quickly learn HRIS and talent management systemsFully proficient in all Microsoft Office applicationsKnowledge of Canada Labour Code an assetExperience with ADP WFN an assetCertified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation is an asset About the BC Maritime Employers Association The BC Maritime Employers Association represents approximately 49 waterfront employers and, by extension, the more than 8,500 men and women who work for them.
