Job Description:About us: We’re a 3rd generation family business of 60 years. From compact cameras to the latest pro gear, we carry it all. With 7 stores, we’re Canada’s 2nd largest independent photo retail chain. While other camera stores have been struggling in the digital age of phones, we’ve been thriving. We added our newest store in 2013 in Langley. The reason for our success….our people! With almost 50 employees, over 40% have been with us for over 10 years. Our turnover is amongst the lowest in retail. Our Photo Sales Specialists have a passion for photography, as do most of our warehouse and head office team. During the pandemic, with careful safety protocols, we continued online sales while our retail stores closed for 7 weeks and each of our employees remained employed and receiving their pay. We fully reopened with our Covid-19 Safety Plan on the 1st day of BC’s Phase 2 in May 2020 and have remained fully opened, thanks to our great team of dedicated employees. Controller: Department: Head office (located in the lovely neighbourhood of Kerrisdale @ 2170 W. 41 Ave, Vancouver) Report to: President/Owner Summary: More than an Accountant and more than a Controller, this hands-on position goes beyond the daily routine, payroll, and monthly and annual financial statements and related responsibilities. It gets involved with Loss Prevention, Inventory control, asset and facilities management, oversee and liaise with fully managed IT support services, plus handling insurance, leases, vacation back-up for HR, and assist with Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Planning. Our Controller will work with our Accounting/Office Assistant and alongside our other head office employees: Merchandise Buyer, Marketing Coordinator and our Owner. Qualifications required:Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar accounting position, preferably in retail.Seasoned accounting professional. CPA designation required.Experience in small/medium size business preferred.Our software systems: Sage 300, Payworks, Microsoft 365, Aralco (POS/BOS), Dakis (e-commerce).General IT background with knowledge of networks, computers, printers, etc. Ability to troubleshoot IT problems to coordinate with our external Managed IT service provider.Exceptional interpersonal skills and communicator, both verbal and written.Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to quickly learn new systems. Strong organizational skills with attention to fine detail.A team player who is keen to support other team members, and someone who can effectively collaborate and work with other functions.Ability to inspire, engage, and motivate others throughout company to achieve results and success.Knowledge of GST, PST, WorkSafeBC, Employment Standards Act, Privacy Act, etc: reporting, compliance, regulations as related to retail.Ability to effectively explain Contribution To Overhead, stock turns, Gross Margin, ROI, wage cost, operating expenses and basic P&< to non-financial store managers.Interest in photography and knowledge of our industry would be an asset.
