School Chef

them to be strong global leaders in the future. We believe that one of the most fundamental ways we can achieve this is by caring for and ensuring that the nutritional needs of each child are met daily.

The Role
We are currently searching for a chef for our school who has a passion for food with a philosophy that resonates with a “farm to table” nutritional foundation. We would like this individual to stimulate interest in food and nutrition for our students and help them foster a love for healthy foods like vegetables through creative food preparation.

Responsibilities for this position include:
• Becoming an integral role in the development of the menu and preparation of student meals following Canada’s Food Guide
• Provide creative and imaginative meals (morning and afternoon snacks, lunch) that focus on meal plating and innovative meal ideas
• Maintain the necessary food inventory on a weekly basis in relation to fresh produce, storage, and frozen items
• Ensure food items are stored, dated and kept at the appropriate temperature
• Ensure all equipment needed for food preparation is in optimal condition and report any changes or concerns to Management
• Serve lunches to the students and help each child to feel motivated to eat their lunch
• Support snack preparation for special school events such as holidays, concerts and graduations
• Take pictures of meals to post on our Instagram page and internal communications for parents
• Manage kitchen cleanliness and ensure all pots and other utensils are cleaned and sanitized at end of day

Skill Requirements
• Innovation in creating menus and food preparation styles
• Analytical skills in determining what tools and inventory are needed
• Time management in ensuring that food is made according to to set deadlines
• Creativity for meals to be advertised through various social media platforms
• Passion and drive for cooking
Required experience
• Cooking/Catering: 1 year
Required license or certification
• College Diploma in the Culinary Field- i.e., Culinary Skills or Management or related
• Food Handler Certification
• Vulnerable Sector Check is required
Work hours:
Monday – Friday, 7am -2pm
Pay rate:
$18 – $20/ hr
