Nextreme is currently looking to hire an Experienced Steel Manufacturing Shop Lead/Fabricator to work in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. The shop lead will work within a diverse business that specializes in metal manufacturing/construction of all trades and retail industrial sales.

Working with the company Operations Manager, the ideal candidate should have a positive attitude with a strong work ethic, be able to take charge and lead the shop strategically, gets along well with others, and is willing to be flexible with last minute or emergency client requests by meeting tight deadlines with the overall team.

Hours are based on approximately 50 hours per week with the manufacturing facility open from Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm in Yellowknife however, typically this job will continually require some extent of attention and reflects on how well the Shop Lead manages his/her time. General Purpose

The Shop Lead is responsible to provide fabrication estimates for custom steel fabrication and shop projects. The lead will be supervising new and various apprentice level tradespeople and spend time demonstrating safe use of fabrication equipment while fabricating for various projects.

Responsibilities include:

Scheduling Shop Crew
Estimating for labour and/or material costs
Quality Control & Inspection for various projects
Preparation and planning for projects awarded to ensure the flow of material through various fabrication processes
Planning for shop fabrication projects and ensuring all shop staff have assigned work on a daily basis
Custom Shop Fabrication using Manufacturing Equipment
The successful candidate must have the following skills and experience

A minimum of 10 years’ experience fabricating along with 5 to 10 years supervision experience
Experience preparing quotes in metal manufacturing industries
Ability to read blue prints, drawings and specifications for materials
Strong math and problem solving skills
Ability to work within tight deadlines
Project management and coordination experience
Knowledge of fabricating equipment and machines (brakes, saw, iron worker, rollers/benders, etc.)
Familiar with the following standards ASME, CWB, ULC, API and ISO and/or COR.
Able to manage multiple deadlines
Teamwork and positive attitude
Exceptional attention to detail
Fluent written and verbal English communication skills
Education and Experience

Trade’s certificate with over ten years’ experience in a similar role from a comparable business – fabrication is a requirement
CWB Certification
TIG fabrication experience a requirement
