In this role, you will be accountable for the design, development, and maintenance of software process models and systems that are used to improve product quality, process efficiency and productivity. You will also be working with production and quality assurance personnel to provide data collection and automation for key process control parameters.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with production personnel, quality assurance personnel to understand processes being
  • Gather data and ensuring that the data recorded represents the process accurately
  • Analyze data and produce proof-of-concept process models
  • Write software to automate the process models
  • Work with information technology department to integrate the software into existing shop-floor systems
  • Maintain existing software process models developed in-house
  • Maintain other software process models that are no longer supported by vendors
  • Work with vendors to ensure newly purchased software process models perform optimally
  • Monitor model performance and tune as necessary
  • Recommend improvements to processes based on data analyses

Requirements:

  • Computer Engineering or similar educational background
  • Experience with software simulation and optimization an asset
  • Capable in industrial process control, software development and data analysis
  • Experience with control systems or materials science an asset
  • Familiar with software such as MatLab, Mathematica and Python
  • Strong statistical and analytical skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in a steel mill or other heavy manufacturing environment an asset
  • As the steel mill is a 24/7 operation, this position requires some after-hours support when the models aren’t performing properly
