The Millwork shop produces custom construction quality interior and exterior finishes, cabinetry, and other decorative components. The Opportunity Terlin is currently seeking a fulltime, experienced, and dynamic Millwork Installer / Cabinetmaker to join their growing team. Installer Responsibilities Working from plans and architectural drawings, the Millwork Installer is responsible for building and installing projects on time and to the highest quality standards in the industry. Specifically, the role will be responsible for: · Reading and interpreting drawings and plans. · Pre-planning for the installation of custom design commercial, institutional, and hospitality millwork pieces and cabinetry. · Efficiently installing millwork using fundamental trade practices to ensure completion within specified timeframes while upholding the highest standards of workmanship. · Performing assembly of wooden and/or metal furniture and fixture components, ensuring all assembled pieces are properly reinforced and installed in the correct locations as specified on drawings. · Identifying issues or barriers to finishing the project on time and suggesting solutions. · Utilizing the machinery, equipment, and tools applicable to the trade. · Maintaining a safe and clean work environment at all times with the utmost respect for the customer’s property. · Receiving and unloading shipments of finished product as well as manually lifting custom millwork and cabinets up stairs and around site obstacles. · Some overtime may be required to meet project completion deadlines. · Perform other related duties as assigned – specifically, millwork projects when not performing installations. Cabinetmaker Responsibilities Working from plans and architectural drawings, the Cabinetmaker is responsible to build projects on time and to the highest quality standards in the industry. Specifically, the Cabinetmaker will be responsible for: · Reviewing plans and ensuring a thorough understanding of the project’s scope. · Planning and executing the work to fit the timelines required by the customer. · Identifying problems or barriers to finishing the project on time and suggesting solutions. · Leading the build on the project while assisted by one or two apprentice or junior Cabinetmakers. · Lead, mentor, coach, and train junior employees in the craft of cabinetmaking. · Ensure safety standards are met and reinforced at all times in all areas of the shop and notify supervisor of problems or concerns. · Work within the larger team to create a safe, clean, and efficient workplace. · Working hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm. (Some overtime may be required to meet project completion deadlines.) · Tools will be supplied by the company. Qualifications · A minimum of 2 years demonstrated retail / commercial installation and assembly experience of woodwork, cabinets, architectural millwork (including trims, beams and panels), and store fixtures. · A minimum of 2 years demonstrated cabinetmaking experience. · Thorough knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment used when constructing and installing cabinets and millwork. · Ability to provide any required on-site modifications / touch ups. · Must be able to work from rough sketches or technical information for installation and placement. · Must be able to provide own hand tools and transportation. (Mechanical tools will be supplied by Terlin.) · Must be self-motivated and able to work independently with an enthusiastic and positive personality. · Reliable and and flexible including evenings and weekends based on client requirements. · Ability to do repetitious work (up and down movements, carrying/handling heavy cabinetry components). · Physically fit for access and mobility in tight spaces, able to lift up to 50 lbs., able to work at heights over 5 feet periodically, as well as sustained periods of standing, sitting, walking, bending, and kneeling. · Must have a focus on safety and adherence to site safety rules. · Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to occasionally travel outside the Ottawa area. · Must be able to work without supervision when needed, but capable of following the direction of the supervisor on-site when working with larger teams. · Demonstrate an ability to coordinate and problem solve with other team members. · Have a commitment to quality, attention to detail, and taking pride in workmanship is essential. · Experience working with computers / smart phone applications for submitting online project reporting. · Additional assets would be experience working in millwork and finish carpentry. · Previous retail construction and commercial installations preferred but not mandatory. · Professional experience with millwork installation (e.g.: laminate, cabinets, Corian, trim, wainscoting, kitchens, bars, mouldings, doors, frames, hardware, etc.) in restaurants, retail stores, offices, hotels, etc. · A valid Secret security clearance (or ability to successfully obtain same). · Ability to resolve issues on-site to complete contract as efficiently as possible What Terlin Has to Offer Terlin offers employees the opportunity to work on innovative projects alongside dynamic, dedicated, and talented teams who possess a strong drive for success.
