Utility Construction General Manager


Job Description and Responsibilities : This position is responsible for the oversight of all facets of the assigned market, including but not limited to; daily operations, safety, staffing, accomplishing business objectives, customer satisfaction, and profitability.


Direct and coordinate all market activities to develop and implement long-range goals to meet business and profitability growth objectives Review analyses of activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine market progress towards established objectives Plan and implement procedures and systems to maximize operating efficiency and develop strategies to improve operational inefficiencies Promote a safety first culture and ensure a safe work environment is maintained by adhering to and enforcing all Company safety practices and procedures Determine ongoing staffing requirements, monitor staff, and ensure training needs are addressed Oversee the maintenance of the facility, warehouse, fleet, vehicles, equipment, and tools Handle escalated customer concerns and accurately document correspondence with customers Establish, manage, and maintain subcontractor relationships Liaise with the Shared Services group to resolve concerns or issues within the operations Review financial and operational performance data to monitor and measure productivity and goal progress Metrics and reporting Perform any other related duties as required or assigned

Requirements : EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Four year college degree, or equivalent experience resulting in broad knowledge of a field related to the job, such as construction management, plus 5-7 years related experience in utilities/fiber optic, cable tv pathways, aerial and MDU, and 2-3 years related management experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.

DECISION MAKING Performs work operations which permit frequent opportunity for decision-making of major importance which would have considerable effect on the final attainment of multiple major activities and the organization’s projects of a large organization component and organization’s clientele.

ANALYTICAL ABILITY / PROBLEM SOLVING Activities covered by expansive policies and objectives, and oversight as to execution and review. High order of analytical, interpretative, and constructive thinking in varied situations covering multiple areas of the organization.

USE OF MACHINES, EQUIPMENT AND/OR COMPUTERS Regular use of complex machines and equipment (desktop/laptop computer and software, road and production machines and equipment, etc.)

PUBLIC CONTACT Frequent contacts with general public, customers, or other outside representatives, wherein the manner of handling these contacts has a bearing on the organization’s position and operation.

SOFTWARE SKILLS REQUIRED Advanced: Spreadsheet Intermediate: Contact Management, Database, Enterprise Resource Planning, Presentation/PowerPoint, Word Processing/Typing

ADDITIONAL SKILLS Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing, must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets Company requirements, ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment, may be required to work long and unpredictable hours, travel up to 75% of the time, including short notice travel, which may include local site travel or national travel depending on business needs

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES While performing the functions of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, talk or hear; frequently required to reach with hands and arms; and occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
