Job Description: Data Analyst Summary: Defines and administers database organization, standards, controls, procedures, and documentation. Provides experienced technical consulting in the definition, design, and creation of a database environment. Advises applications development staff and users on data-based solutions to business problems, data architectures, database management system facilities and capabilities, and the operation and tuning of databases. Ensures economic and efficient availability of data within adequate safeguards. Competent to work at the highest level of all phases of database management. Duties And Responsibilities: Under general direction, designs, implements and maintains complex databases with respect to access methods, access time, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods. Includes maintenance of database dictionaries, overall monitoring of standards and procedures, and integration of systems through database design. The Data Analyst will provide operational support to the production database environment including building, scheduling, and monitoring the necessary support jobs and resolving database problems and user problems. Provides support, as necessary, to the test database environment. The Data Analyst will provide support and technical consulting in database definition, design, and implementation for applications system projects. Researches and determines the use of new database tools and becomes an expert in their use. May provide technical training. Meet with user staff to understand business requirements and to determine data requirements and specifications for a systems project within a general business applications area. Develops logical data models from business requirements. The Data Analyst will transform logical data models into physical database structures and defines the access paths required to access those structures. Analyzes information requirements of new or modified systems and develops database specifications for database construction and maintenance. Codes, tests, and documents definitions and access to the database. Typical projects include meeting with an applications project team to consult on the development of a database project, reorganizing databases when necessary, monitoring and analyzing database performance and usage patterns, evaluating, and making recommendations for the selection of database tools and software, developing and documenting standards for the use, control, updating, and maintenance of databases. Establishes and enforces controls to ensure database integrity. Work as part of a team and provide 7×24 support when required. Must-Have : Thorough knowledge of SQL and ORACLE relational database system, with the ability to focus on business line objectives Must possess strong applications knowledge of database systems and programming techniques. High level of technical skill and experience in database administration and design. The incumbent must have a good knowledge of operating systems typically used for database software such as Unix, Windows, and Cloud Technology. Nice to Have: Equivalent experience includes 4+ years as a systems designer and programmer, and database designer with some supervisory experience. Previous experience Degree/Certifications Required: Associate’s degree in computer programming or equivalent training required. Years of experience: 5-7 years experience required, preferably an Oracle Database analyst Note: It’s a 24-hour job, so flexibility in timing.
