Operational Controller/Finance Manager (L)



Job Description:The V.G. Group of Companies is looking for an Operational Controller/Finance Manager in Simcoe, Ontario. The ideal individual will oversee the finance, accounting, and selected administrative operations of the company, with direct oversight and responsibility for three people, together with ensuring all financial activities are compliant with small business accounting standards, and all reporting is conducted commensurate with laws and regulations relating to a private Canadian company. Responsibilities Financial Accounting, Compliance & ReportingThorough understanding of financial reporting, and general ledger/ chart of accounts structure, including alignment and support to corporate strategic plans and initiativesMaintaining practices, procedures, internal controls and systems, to ensure accounting principles adhered to in order to generate accurate and timely monthly and annual individual & group consolidated financial statementsOversight, maintenance, and updating of weekly management operational financial reportsSelected daily, weekly and monthly reconciliation & internal reporting activitiesEnsure regulatory & other compliance requirements, including financing, payroll, T4’s, HST, EHT, WSIB, income tax, and government funding programsAssessing corporate risk management & developing containment programsFiscal year end procedures, including year end package, coordination with external accountants and other advisors Strategy and PlanningFinancial reporting, and management information for operating and strategic purposesPreparation of operating budgets, and financial & cash flow forecasting, reflecting impact of various corporate operational initiatives, and ownership prioritiesContribution to development, monitoring, and execution of Business Plans, with focus on financial & other performance reporting, and supporting strategic and other initiatives Reporting and AnalysisManaging, supervising & mentoring of accounting department staff, and other colleagues, including supporting professional and career developmentWorking with Senior Management Team & General Manager of Operations, while providing supporting reporting, budgets & forecasting activities, and KPI metricsEstablish systems and metrics to measure progress towards achievement of outcomesProvides departments with reports to enable management of their goals and objectivesAble to support diverse groups and individuals effectively Project ManagementPrioritizing & allocating activities in order to meet deadlines in a timely manner Project Management activities, including analysis, monitoring, reporting, pre & post budgets analysis, and overall strong organizational skills Continuous ImprovementEnsures service delivery excellence through continuous quality improvement processes that include planning, quality monitoring, and risk managementAble to assist in documenting workflows, streamlining and standardizing processes & procedures, technology enabling activities, including repurposing and leveraging of data for analysis & reporting purposes OtherGeneral administrative duties, including selected human resources, IT, employee onboarding, employee benefits, physical & digital filing of confidential employee recordsCoordinate activities with external IT and other external technology providersManage all licensing and insurance requirements (auto, business, livestock etc)Government funding applications & trackingIntermittent assistance with other administrative (i.e. order entry, purchasing) functions, if circumstance dictate Core Competencies and TraitsStrong interpersonal listening, written, verbal and presentation communication skillsCritical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skillsAble to effectively operate in a dynamic team-oriented cooperative environment, focused on operational efficiency and ambitious growth plansContributes to a positive environment that fosters employee engagement, individual development, effective risk taking, and innovationExhibits a willingness to learn and contribute to challenging initiativesContinuous improvement mindset, and inclination to identify opportunities in finance & administration, in addition to other operational areas, and provide suggestions for improvementInitiates and leads change effectively to ensure goals and objectives of functional areas are aligned with the organization’s strategic direction, and that results are achieved.Strong organization skills, with high attention to detail; is flexible and adaptiveOperates with a sense of urgency, ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlinesAn inherent interest in ‘business’ and a genuine drive to succeedTrusted and respected through consistent honesty and professionalism in all interactions Knowledge, Skills and ExperiencePrevious controller / finance manager experience, having five to ten years of financial and management experience, with over day-to-day operations of companies commensurate in size and complexity, preferably in an entrepreneurial settingFive plus years of experience in a manufacturing, wholesale & retail accounting environment is preferredUniversity/College undergraduate or graduate degree in Accounting or Finance, plus a CPA (or equivalent experience) preferredTechnical proficiency with accounting procedures, policies & standards, in addition to associated general administrative & IT activitiesProficient with QuickBooks & QuickBooks Online accounting software, and general IT knowledge & skills (e.g., MS Office, Google Suites, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)In depth understanding of ERP/MRP systems and their supply chain functionality desirableAbility to establish strong relationships with leaders at all levels, including management, administrative & operating (e.g., production, logistical, retail) staff, and suppliers, customers, & other external service providers Compensation Arrangements Salary and other compensation elements commensurate with ability and experienceSalary Range: $70,000 – $100,000Intermittent discretionary bonusesAnnual vacation entitlement 3 weeksProduct purchase subject to 25% employee discount About the V.
