Job Description:PLANT GENERAL MANAGER – HEAVY INDUSTRY – PREFERRED BACKGROUND IN FORESTRY, WOOD PRODUCTS, MINING, STEEL, CEMENT, CONSTRUCTION EQUIPMENT, LARGE INDUSTRIAL EQUIPMENT AND SIMILAR. PLEASE NOTE: TO TAKE ON THIS ROLE REQUIRES THAT THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE BE AUTHORIZED TO WORK IN CANADA, BE FLUENT IN ENGLISH AND FRENCH AND BE COMFORTABLE RESIDING IN THE SAGUENAY – LAC-SAINT-JEAN REGION OF QUEBEC, 365 KM NORTH OF QUEBEC CITY AMD 565 KM NORTHEAST OF MONTREAL. Our client is a diversified wood products company producing lumber, OSB (oriented strand board), LVL, MDF, plywood, pulp, newsprint, wood chips, and more with facilities in Canada, the United States, and Europe. LOCATION: Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean Region, Quebec RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Regional Manager, the General Manager is accountable for the safe operation of the OSB facility maintaining cost, developing talent, meeting customer expectations while developing a world class safety culture. The facility is currently ramping up production presenting a unique opportunity to foster the culture in a relatively new workforce. Other responsibilities include: safety, production, quality, process control, maintenance, talent management, forecasting and budgeting. You will also: Manage personnel, capital, equipment and processes to generate maximum efficiency and continuous improvement, while maintaining safety, product quality, customer service, consistency and operational excellence. Create and foster an environment of mutual trust and credibility. Promote a world-class safety culture. Develop realistic, long-term plans for operations and capital. Focus on working capital management and strategic supply of fiber, resin and energy. Plan and make process improvements to reduce costs and improve quality. Maintain optimal staffing levels while developing a talented team of dedicated employees. Address human resources issues and maintain positive relationships with employees. Ensure environmental compliance. To coach the effectiveness of the management team: to ensure continuous support and development, to foster teamwork and to develop talent. Develop and manage the plant’s operating plan and budgets, based on the divisional and company’s plans. REQUIREMENTS: A bachelor’s degree in engineering, wood science or business. A minimum of 10 years leading a safety-focused team in a heavy manufacturing environment. Experience in making OSB panels or panel products is an asset. You will also have proven knowledge of manufacturing methods and process improvement experience. You are a proactive and dynamic leader and you are recognized for your ability to form, develop and support strong teams. You must have great business acumen, strong technical skills, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and a great ability to motivate your team. You are fluent in English and French. COMPENSATION: Salary reflects the seniority of this position and is commensurate with experience. Definitely six figures plus. Plus, benefits.
