SOUTHLAND Transportation is currently seeking a Training Officer to join our team. This position will cover the areas of Rockyford, Brooks, Strathmore and Drumheller and will be responsible for the effective training of new employees and the continued education of our current drivers. In-house training is provided as per the programs, policies and guidelines of SOUTHLAND’s Training Department. This position requires an ability to communicate well with tact and diplomacy in confidential matters. Training will be 5 days a week with a school bus run in between. Knowledge and Skills Required * Class 2 License, “S” Endorsed held for a minimum three (3) years * Knowledge of Highway Traffic Act and Emergency Procedures * MELT certified and able to pass the trainer certification with the Ministry of Transportation * Clean 10-year commercial drivers abstract Principal Duties and Responsibilities * New Employees: * Put together all confidential paperwork and start files for new employees * Train the trainer program must be completed before training new hires. * Help drivers with any questions or concerns they may have with Training & Development * Maintain a high level of confidentiality * Training: * File and prepare any and all information packages for new trainees * Daily classroom sessions for new trainees * On the road evaluations * Assessment of driving skills * Provide in-services on how to operate wheelchair units and other new equipment we may acquire * Learn TRACK IT and document usage to TRIP * Attend meetings * Drive a school route * Well need to meet the requirements to become a 2S MELT government certified trainer with the ministry of Transportation Working Conditions Typical hours are 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM during the school year, with additional hours based on operational needs. Summer hours are an 8-hour day. The ideal candidate is a school bus driver with SOUTHLAND, with a valid class 2 S for over 3 years, fulfilling training duties in between a regular AM/PM school bus run.
