Position Summary
We are looking to a hire a Toddler Support Worker, formally titled Child & Family Development Aide (CFDA), to work as part of our Toddler & Family Support program funded through Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD). This is a part-time position, working Monday-Friday within programming hours of 9:00am-3:00pm, for a total of 18-24 hours/week (dependent on family availability; potential for additional hours if desired). This position will work out of families’ homes and Pacekids’ office (808 55 Ave NE) in North Calgary and will commence in late January 2022.

The Child & Family Development Aide in the family support program would work with children aged 1 to 3 years old, planning and implementing activities to target the children’s individual goals as outlined in their program plan under the direction of the service delivery team, supporting both the development of the child as well as the family unit.

As a key member of the FSCD team, the CFDA exemplifies Pacekids’ values of collaboration, learning, respect, integrity, and accountability, and plays an integral role in fostering a team that shares Pacekids’ vision and mission. The CFDA works closely with many members of Pacekids’ FSCD team, including Supervisors/Coordinators and Therapists. Diplomacy, tact, discretion, and conflict resolution skills are necessary as this position has access to highly sensitive and confidential information. The impact of decisions made by this position may affect the FSCD program, including children and families.

Responsibilities
Include but are not limited to:
– Provide a positive learning environment for both the child and the parent(s)/guardian(s)
– Be knowledgeable about child development and the assessed needs of the child as outlined in the child’s program plan
– Develop and implement a weekly Family Development Plan based on the child’s goals, ensuring every session is adequately prepared for in advance
– Implement strategies provided by the service delivery team on an ongoing basis to target various goals to sustain or improve the child’s ability or independence, or prevent regression
– Support multiple families in a group setting, under the direction of a Coordinator
– Empower and support parent(s)/guardian(s) to manage the needs of their child, generalize skills and strategies in a child’s natural environment, and increase independence with the implementation of the child’s goals into their daily lives
– In collaboration with the service delivery team, develop approaches and programming to promote the child’s development
– Attend any training sessions or meetings organized by Pacekids or other outside agencies pertaining to the child’s needs
– Adhere to all Pacekids policies and procedures
-Submit timesheets and hours audit forms by applicable deadlines

What You Bring
Core competencies and qualifications:
– High School Diploma or equivalent
– Passion for supporting children with special needs and their families
– Experience working with young children (1 – 3 years) required; experience working with children with special needs an asset
– Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal
– Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, move quickly in response to a child, and work at the child’s level which will require but is not limited to bending, sitting on the floor, and sitting on a stool
– Current Alberta driver’s license and access to a reliable, personal vehicle
– Must be willing to drive to various parts of North Calgary, with mileage reimbursement for travel beyond 20km from one’s home or “home base”
– Must be available from 9:00am – 3:00pm, Monday to Friday
– Excellent communication, relationship building, teamwork, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with children, families, and staff
– Demonstrated ability to work independently, with an emphasis on self-initiative, professionalism, organization, patience, maturity, and tact
– Adaptability and flexibility in working with children and families with varying needs
– Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
– Current Standard First Aid and CPR – level C certification; can be obtained upon hire within a designated time frame
– Clearance from a Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector check, current within the last six months; can be obtained upon hire within a designated time frame
– Clearance from a Child Intervention Record check, current within the last year; can be obtained upon hire within a designated time frame
– Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination prior to start date
