Position: Crew Chief – Ironworker

Must be Calgary area based as work is located in Calgary and Travel Requirements are out of Calgary. SBL Contractors is a Calgary-based commercial construction company that services western Canada, specializing in turn key design build projects. We are presently seeking a motivated Ironworker with strong leadership skills who will, under the direction of the Operations Coordinator and site supervisors, be responsible for the cooperative management and execution of site structural construction activities in accordance with SBL’s Policies, Procedures, Plans and Specifications.

The successful applicant will have experience working with steel buildings and join our team to work on active construction projects located both in the Calgary area and sites in Saskatchewan/BC. Travel will be required up to 50% of the time. LOA, accommodations and paid travel time are provided for out of town work.

Qualifications: • Valid Ironworker – MBSE or Structural ticket • Minimum three years structural construction experience • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with clean driver’s abstract • Valid first aid, fall protection, aerial work platform and CSTS certifications • Completion of Leadership for Safety Excellence

Duties/Responsibilities: • Manage the field execution of the assigned work scope in conformance with project quality, drawings, specifications, and schedule all while under direct supervision of Site Foreman. • Conduct safety toolbox meetings when site foreman not present and ensure compliance with site HSE from all team members. • Provide input to the Site Foreman regarding the project schedule and feasibility of meeting of scheduled deadlines • Act proactively to ensure that the required material and personnel are on site daily to meet scheduled deadlines. • Review erection equipment and monitor lifting operation to ensure all equipment is in good working order. Ensure inspection logs are maintained. • Recognize the strengths and weaknesses of field staff, communicate with Site Foreman, and coordinate site efforts to take advantage of strengths • In the absence of the site foreman, keep records of any incidents or near misses on site and report to Site Supervisor • Be responsible for all paperwork generated during course of work. • Ensures that his/her work crew is properly supplied with tools, materials and equipment. • Prevents wastage and misuse of materials, tools or equipment. • Supervises assigned work team to best utilize manpower and materials. • Enforces company policies and procedures at the work site to prevent absenteeism, and idleness and to promote safe work practices. • Complies with the highest level of safety during all stages of project execution to avoid any type of incidents and/or accidents. • Provides “on-the-job” training for work crew under his/her responsibility. • Abides by all company policies and procedures. • Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and requested. • Materials handling required to unload and stage components for install • Safely and effectively assemble and erect pre-fabricated metal components as per erection drawings • Square and plumb components as required while maintaining stability of structure using the requisite erection methods • Use good judgement and safety equipment and procedures to reduce the risk of injury to all personnel working on the project • Travel to various work sites.
