Full Time Equipment Operator


The Municipality of Oakland-Wawanesa is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Equipment Operator for the Public Works Department. This position will be part of the team responsible for maintaining roads, bridges, culverts and drainage infrastructure. The incumbent will be primarily responsible for operating a grader and periodically a variety of other municipal equipment including, but not limited to a tractor, mower, backhoe, loader and tandem gravel truck, as well as undertaking general labor tasks as assigned. Qualifications: •Minimum of 2 years’ experience operating heavy equipment, preference will be given to theincumbent who has experience operating a grader •Working knowledge and experience in the areas of road construction and repair, drainage systemsand heavy equipment operation •Ability to work independently under minimal supervision in a small team environment •Mechanical aptitude and experience operating various equipment as required •Knowledge of Work Place Health & Safety regulations •Ability to work with hired trades for the repair and/or installation of roads and culverts •A valid Class 3 Manitoba Driver’s License •Consideration will be given to candidates who possess a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s License andwilling to upgrade to a Class 3. •Effective verbal and listening skills •High School or equivalent combination of training and experience •Experience in small municipalities performing a variety of public works functions is highly desirable •Must be reliable, flexible and able to work evening and weekends if neededThis is a full-time position under the collective agreement with The International Union of Operating Engineers Local 987.
